Description

As Stooker celebrates its 10th anniversary, we're incredibly grateful for the support that has brought us to this milestone. To mark this special moment, we purchased this exceptional Daterra Masterpiece from the 2024 Masterpiece auction - a unique annual event that this year was dedicated to honoring Brazilian coffee researchers whose groundbreaking work shapes the industry's future.

This lot pays tribute to Herminia Emilia Prieto Martinez, whose life's work stands as a testament to the transformative power of dedication and innovation in agricultural science. Her pioneering research in Plant Mineral Nutrition has led to significant advancements in coffee cultivation, fundamentally changing how we approach coffee quality, aroma, flavor, and resilience.

Martinez's work with hydroponic cultivation (growing plants in nutrient-rich water rather than soil) and coffee plant nutrition has not only improved yields but revolutionized our understanding of how each nutrient contributes to developing the rich, complex flavors that define exceptional coffee. Her research linking mineral nutrients to coffee flavor and aroma, and their role in resisting microbial contamination, has elevated global discussions on coffee quality.

Beyond her scientific contributions, Martinez has left an indelible mark through her editorial roles at Ceres Scientific Magazine, helping advance our collective knowledge of plant nutrition and coffee excellence.

This Aramosa variety (a hybrid developed for climate resilience and naturally low in caffeine) from plot BV24 underwent a 60-hour natural anaerobic process (fermentation without oxygen in sealed containers), creating a complex profile of yellow fruits, orange, blueberry, orange blossom, honey and spices. Fun fact: Eddie and Onno have visited Daterra right after harvest last year in person, experiencing firsthand the dedication behind this exceptional coffee - a fitting tribute to a researcher whose work continues to shape the future of coffee.
