Description
From the highlands of Ethiopia comes this exceptional coffee from Yetera Tulu, who inherited his family's 4.5-hectare farm and has devoted over 15 years to perfecting his craft. His commitment to quality shines through in every aspect of his farming approach, from implementing best practices like pruning and stumping to his ambitious plans for expanding his land and planting new coffee varieties.
Yetera's farm embodies regenerative farming principles. Growing a mixture of local landrace varieties - historically known as Ethiopian heirloom - he ensures both genetic diversity and resilience. The natural shade from intercropped plants creates an ideal microclimate, while his homemade compost eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers, maintaining a truly sustainable approach.
The combination of high altitude and nutrient-rich soil provides the foundation, but it's Yetera's passion and meticulous attention to detail that truly sets this coffee apart. He and his family carefully handpick only the ripest red cherries, which are then sorted and dried on raised beds for 25-30 days, with frequent turning to ensure even drying and preserve the coffee's vibrant complexity.
Through the Lalisaa Project - a program designed to support smallholder farmers with direct training and market access - Yetera receives agronomy support and education in advanced cultivation, harvesting, and processing techniques. This initiative connects farmers directly to international buyers, bypassing traditional intermediaries to ensure better prices and more sustainable relationships. The project's focus on quality improvement and supply chain transparency enables farmers like Yetera to showcase their exceptional coffee while building long-term partnerships with roasters worldwide.
Enjoy!
